BETHESDA, Md. — Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking that took place on October 19 on Bethesda Avenue, Montgomery County Police announced.
The incident occurred around 9:21 p.m. when the teens, dressed in black and wearing face masks, approached a victim who was seated in their vehicle in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue. According to police, a 17-year-old suspect brandished a gun and demanded the victim’s car keys and other belongings. The victim complied, and the teens fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
An off-duty officer later spotted the vehicle on Wisconsin Avenue near Stanford Street and attempted a traffic stop. The suspects stopped but attempted to flee on foot. All four were apprehended in the area shortly afterward.
The suspects include three teens from Silver Spring—ages 13, 14, and 17—and a 15-year-old from Prince George’s County. The 13- and 15-year-olds were transported to the Cheltenham Youth Detention Center, while the 17-year-old was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged as an adult with armed carjacking, armed robbery, and other related offenses.
The 14-year-old sustained minor injuries while attempting to escape and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later taken into custody on October 22 and also charged with armed carjacking and armed robbery before being transported to the Cheltenham Detention Center.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
