President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has appointed two of his attorneys from the New York hush money trial to prominent Justice Department positions.
Trump named Todd Blanche as deputy attorney general for his upcoming administration, while Emil Bove is set to take on the role of principal associate deputy attorney general. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said that the pair will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing Justice Department policies and overseeing critical agencies, including the FBI.
“I am pleased to announce that Todd Blanche will serve as Deputy Attorney General in my Administration. Todd is an excellent attorney who will be a crucial leader in the Justice Department, fixing what has been a broken System of Justice for far too long,” Trump wrote. “I am also hereby announcing Emil Bove will serve as Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General in my Administration, and as Acting Deputy Attorney General, as Todd Blanche is in process of being confirmed by the Senate.”
As deputy attorney general, Blanche will oversee the department’s daily operations and advise the attorney general on key policy matters, CNN reported. Previously, he played a pivotal role in Trump’s defense in the Manhattan hush money case, which ended in a conviction earlier this year, and in the federal classified documents case, later dismissed by a judge this past summer.
Blanche also participated in Trump’s federal case related to the events of Jan. 6, 2021, CNN reported. In Trump’s sole criminal trial this year, Blanche served as lead attorney in the hush money case, engaged in a prolonged cross-examination of Michael Cohen and faced multiple tense exchanges with Judge Juan Merchan.
