BURBANK, CA

– A woman is facing serious accusations of impersonating a registered nurse in California, raising alarm about how easily unqualified individuals can infiltrate healthcare. Authorities allege Amanda Leeann Porter, 44, worked in multiple hospitals under false identities, potentially jeopardizing patient safety.

Fake Credentials, Real Patients: Allegations at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center

The Burbank Police Department revealed that Porter allegedly worked at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Los Angeles from April 8 to May 8 without proper credentials. During this time, she oversaw 60 patients, posing as a licensed out-of-state nurse.

Hospital staff uncovered the alleged fraud after realizing Porter had been using the identity of a legitimate registered nurse. Before being discovered, she managed to collect two paychecks for her work.

Investigators believe Porter did not stop at this one incident. She reportedly continued applying for similar positions at other area hospitals using falsified information, raising concerns about a broader pattern of deception.

Arrest and Legal Consequences

On November 7, Burbank police arrested Porter on a warrant following an earlier release from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s custody. She had been detained for a similar offense at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has since charged her with identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft.

Adding to her legal troubles, Porter is currently on federal probation for a prior fraud conviction in Virginia. This recent case underscores the potential risks posed by repeat offenders in critical industries like healthcare.
