POINSETT COUNTY, ARAuthorities in Poinsett County, Arkansas, have arrested two parents after their three-year-old autistic child was found wandering alone in a parking lot. Days later, medical tests revealed the child had been exposed to fentanyl for months, prompting serious charges against the parents.
Child Found Wandering Alone in Trumann Parking Lot
On October 24, 2024, officers from the Trumann Police Department responded to a report of a small child wandering near a Pizza Hut on West Speedway. According to the incident report, the child appeared dirty, soiled, and unable to communicate. Officers searched the area and discovered an unlocked door at a nearby Boutique and Coffee Lounge.
Inside, the officers found the child s parents, identified as Quinterio Holman and Camille Barker, asleep on the floor. Both individuals were already on probation at the time. According to the police report, Holman and Barker admitted, It takes two of us to watch her when we are working.
Fentanyl Exposure Confirmed During Medical Testing
The next day, the Department of Human Services (DHS) placed the child into protective custody and transported her to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital after she became unusually drowsy.
Medical staff confirmed the child tested positive for fentanyl exposure. A subsequent hair follicle test revealed that the toddler had experienced prolonged exposure to the drug over a three-month period, according to police reports.
Parents Face Multiple Charges in Disturbing Case
After receiving the hair follicle test results on November 12, 2024, Trumann Police Detective Amy Kary filed affidavits for the arrest of Holman and Barker. Both parents were charged with the following:
On November 13, 2024, officers arrested Holman and Barker at 7:44 PM and transported them to the Poinsett County Detention Center. Police also discovered additional controlled substances believed to be fentanyl during the arrest. Holman s bond was set at $75,000, while Barker s bond was set at $100,000.
Trumann Police Chief Jonathan Redman praised his department s efforts, stating, This case highlights the serious risks associated with neglect and substance exposure in vulnerable populations.
