According to a press release that the Daily Caller News Foundation was able to get, House Speaker Mike Johnson released a statement on Wednesday prohibiting biological men from using women’s restrooms.
According to Johnson, all single-sex amenities (such as locker rooms, restrooms, and changing areas) in the Capitol and House Office Buildings are only available to people of that biological sex.
Johnson stated that the policy upheld current House regulations pertaining to single-sex restrooms on Capitol Hill and that women should have their own areas.
Shortly before Democratic Congressman-elect Sarah McBride is scheduled to take the oath of office as the first member of Congress to identify as transgender, Republican South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace introduced a resolution Monday mandating that people in the Capitol complex use facilities that correspond with their biological sex.
Johnson added that there are unisex restrooms available throughout the Capitol and that each Member office has a private restroom.
Johnson responded, “Like all House policies, it’s enforceable,” when questioned later about the enforceability of the ordinance. “We have single-sex facilities for a reason,” he added.
Representatives of the Republican Party. Chip Roy of Texas and Erin Houchin of Indiana also contributed.
Houchin told the DCNF that biological men have no place in women’s areas like restrooms and locker rooms. On Election Day, the American people made it quite evident that they are fed up with liberal beliefs that are undermining women’s rights. I’m happy that Speaker Johnson has spoken up for the ladies on Capitol Hill.
“You just need to answer the question, is this individual a man or a woman?” said Roy, echoing the view of Houchin and Johnson. The fact that this person [Mcbride] is a guy cannot be disregarded by society.
According to the Post and Courier, Mace was raped by a friend and classmate when she was sixteen years old. She has since stated that the terrible event caused the most difficult period of her life.
You see, there is a man in the women’s locker room with a penis, and I will not stand for him. “That’s not acceptable,” Mace informed reporters.Tuesday. I have also been abused. I’m a victim of rape. I have PTSD from the abuse I ve suffered at the hands of a man and I know how vulnerable women and girls are in private spaces.
The issue of transgender individuals using bathrooms of the opposite sex caught national attention after a biological boy in Loudon County, Virginia, raped a female student in a girls bathroom at a public school in 2021. The school went on todenythat the assault was a result of its trans-inclusive policies.
