U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs said that a Mexican who was living in the United States unlawfully was sentenced to federal prison in Beaumont, Texas, for drug trafficking offenses. Francisco Santana Herrera, 42, was sentenced to 80 months in a federal prison after he admitted guilt to counts of intending to distribute cocaine.
On November 21, 2024, U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone administered the sentence. The court was informed that on April 10, 2024, Herrera was caught speeding in a construction zone along Interstate 10 in Beaumont. Officers discovered approximately 16 kg of cocaine in his car.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations/Customs Enforcement, and the Beaumont Police Department collaborated on this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Grove handled the prosecution.
