Pennsylvania Cop Faces Charges for Stealing Prescription Take Back Drugs

West Chester, Pennsylvania David Maurer, 55, a Detective Sergeant with the West Goshen Township Police Department, was arrested, according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office. Maurer is charged with stealing controlled drugs from a medicine collecting box on Wednesday for his own use.

Maurer faces charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking and Possession of Controlled Substances. On Wednesday, Magisterial District Judge Martin Goch arrested him and arraigned him. Maurer was freed on his own recognizance after his arraignment.

Maurer was assigned to empty prescription collecting boxes at Chester County Hospital and the West Goshen Township Police Department on the day of the incident. These boxes are a component of a county initiative to properly dispose of unneeded prescription drugs. Instead of making sure that the pill bottles containing prohibited narcotics were disposed of properly, Maurer allegedly kept a number of them for himself.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged by the authorities to call the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
