According to Fox 26 Houston, a caravan of about 1,500 migrants, primarily from Central and South America, gathered near Tapachula, Mexico, a few days ago, and is currently heading north. Many of the migrants have stated that they intend to cross the southern border prior to Trump’s inauguration on January 20 because they are afraid that they will not be allowed to enter the United States under the new administration.
According to the Associated Press, Yotzeli Pea, a 23-year-old Venezuelan, stated, “It is going to be more difficult, so we are going in hopes of getting an appointment quicker so we can cross before [Trump] takes office.” It would be simpler that way.

Migrants gathered in Tapachula, a southern Mexican community that has functioned as a sort of holding camp for incoming migrants, days before the Nov. 5 presidential election publicly supported Vice President Kamala Harris and detested Trump.
Along a highway, surrounded by hundreds of other migrants in both directions, a Venezuelan guy declared, “I love Kamala Harris.” The man went on, “Donald Trump, no,” and apparently made a slashing motion with his thumb over his neck.
At the time, a Ghanaian national stated, “We don’t like Donald Trump, because he doesn’t like us,” adding that Harris was his favorite presidential candidate.
The probability of a Trump victory and the likelihood of a last-minute migrant rush at the border were reportedly discussed in a virtual meeting earlier in November by senior Department of Homeland Security officials. The Border Patrol and other immigration enforcement personnel had to be ready for such an incident, the officials had said.
Smugglers have apparently been advising migrants to arrive in the United States as soon as possible after Trump’s election, before the new government takes office.

In the event of deportations, we will receive Mexicans, and we have a plan for that, she said during a press conference in Mexico City. However, we will work beforehand to show that our nationals who are on the other side of the border do not have to be deported, as they actually benefit the U.S. economy.
