Iowa’s CEDAR RAPIDSFor lying on federal papers to unlawfully obtain firearms that were ultimately connected to several crimes, including shootings and robberies, a 22-year-old woman from Cedar Rapids was sentenced on Wednesday to five years of federal probation.
In June, Jasmin Alexandria Fox entered a guilty plea to a single count of lying when buying a gun. According to federal authorities, Fox purchased several firearms from federally registered firearms dealers between August and September 2023 while making false claims that they were for her own use. Rather, she gave the guns to other people, including a criminal.
According to court filings, the firearms Fox bought were connected to a robbery in Cedar Rapids as well as two different shooting events. One firearm was found in the possession of a minor, while another was seized during a fight with a felon.
Judge C.J. Williams of the Chief United States District Court sentenced Fox. Her punishment, which includes probation, emphasizes the seriousness of her acts, according to the prosecution, which allowed firearms to end up in the hands of people who were not allowed to own them.
The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives all looked into the matter. As part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence via coordinated enforcement and community participation, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole L. Nagin oversaw the prosecution.
