Woodbridge, Virginia. After a 32-year-old man with cerebral palsy died earlier this year at their Woodbridge home due to extreme mistreatment, officials have arrested a mother and son and charged them with felony homicide.
On April 2, Jeremy Hall Thompson, the victim, was discovered on the floor of the family’s home in the Bayvue Apartments in the 14100 block of Fisher Avenue, extremely malnourished and unresponsive. The child had open wounds on his body and displayed symptoms of severe neglect, according to the responding medical staff, who also characterized the situation as disheveled.
According to the police, Thompson’s mother, Katharine Mary Thompson, 69, was the son’s primary caregiver and was first accused of felony neglect following the incident. After being taken to a nearby hospital, Thompson passed away on April 15. Given his cerebral disability and the neglect that led to the development of sepsis, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner declared the death to be a homicide.
Police concluded after the inquiry that Jeremy’s brother, 31-year-old Jonathan Lee Thompson, was a responsible party because he also resided in the house and occasionally helped with the victim’s care. Jonathan Thompson and Katharine Thompson were both taken into custody on November 22 and charged with felony homicide as well as abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult.
Police are asking anyone with information that could help solve this case to get in touch with them. Both suspects are still being held, their court dates are still pending, and they are not available on bond.
