Street closures planned for Newark Thanksgiving turkey giveaway

Newark, New Jersey.According to city officials, on Monday, November 25, a number of streets in Newark will be closed to make room for Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. stated that the closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Fairmount Avenue between Springfield Avenue and 15th Avenue and 16th Avenue between Bergen Street and South 7th Street are among the affected streets.

The CityPlex 12 Theaters, which are situated at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Bergen Street, will host the event, which is scheduled to start at noon. Drivers are encouraged to prepare for delays and choose other routes to avoid the impacted regions, as the yearly distribution is anticipated to attract sizable crowds.

In an effort to help families in need over the Thanksgiving holiday, officials commended locals for their cooperation and tolerance during the event.

In order to ensure that reports stay anonymous and that contributors may receive rewards, the Newark Police Division also advised the public to report any criminal activity by calling the 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line.

The city is facilitating this festive custom, so drivers are advised to plan for delays.
