Seattle, WashingtonA The Seattle Police Department verified on Wednesday that the 17-year-old girl who was saved after her sister’s car rolled into the water last Saturday had passed away from her wounds.

Authorities reacted to reports of a vehicle submerged at the Atlantic City Boat Ramp on Seward Park Avenue South at around 6 p.m. on November 16, 2024, which resulted in the sad event. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, had successfully made it to shore, according to first responders from the Seattle Police and Fire Departments. Her younger sister was still in the water, she informed rescuers.

Rescue Efforts and Medical Response

When the automobile rolled into the water, the two sisters were inside it and it was parked at the boat ramp. The driver escaped through the car’s window and made it to safety, according to the police. The submerged vehicle was found by the fire crew between 30 and 40 feet from the coast.

An comprehensive search was conducted for the missing teen by rescue workers, which included two rescue vessels, four divers, and four swimmers. About half an hour later, the teen was discovered in the sea and rescued by the rescue swimmers. Before transferring her to Harborview Medical Center in severe condition, medical personnel started life-saving procedures right away.

Unfortunately, the youngster passed away from her wounds, according to confirmation from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday.

Driver Faces Charges

The driver, who was only identified as the victim’s sister, 20, was detained for vehicular assault after displaying signs of intoxication at the scene. Police stated their investigation is still ongoing, and detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad have taken over the case. Whether more charges will be brought has not been disclosed by the authorities.
