Breaking News: Indictments in 2022 Neptune Township Fatal Shooting




With two men indicted by a grand jury for their alleged roles in a tragic shooting that rocked Monmouth County in May 2022, the wheels of justice are churning in the county. The allegations, which included graphic details regarding the death of 39-year-old Marques Mills of Neptune Township, were revealed by prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Monday.

The two accused, Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, and Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, are now charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Chatmon is also charged with further firearms offenses.

When Neptune Township Police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road on the evening of May 14, 2022, the tragedy took place. on a car parked on his driveway, Mills was discovered seriously hurt. Mills was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center immediately, but the next day he passed away from his wounds.

Chatmon and Walker were named as suspects following a thorough investigation by the Neptune Township Police and the Major Crimes Bureau of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. The U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement agencies worked together to capture the two last Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Judge Jill G. O. Malley is set to have detention hearings for both men on Tuesday, December 3, while they are still being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
