DOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two men are wanted by authorities for allegedly starting a fire in a Dover Township home and shooting into a nearby residence after a violent altercation earlier this month.
Nicholas Lee Burtner, 31, and Jacob Lamar Adams, 28, are wanted in relation to the October 4 arson that severely damaged a home on Carlisle Road, according to the Northern York County Regional Police Department. Both males are charged with several felonies, such as aggravated assault, arson, and criminal attempted homicide.
A 37-year-old woman who was watching the homeowner’s residence woke up to see the house on fire after hearing loud popping noises shortly before one in the morning. Before the majority of the back of the house was destroyed by fire, she was able to flee with the homeowner’s dog and cat.
A neighbor told authorities that bullets had hit their house during the same occasion as firefighters fought the fire. Officers found three bullets lodged inside the neighbor’s house and seized three.40-caliber round casings from the road. There were no injuries at the neighbor’s house.
After speaking with the homeowner, a 38-year-old guy, who disclosed a tense separation with a 37-year-old lady who now resides in Mechanicsburg, police eventually connected Burtner and Adams to the shooting and burning. According to investigators, Adams and Burtner, the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, started the fire as payback for the homeowner. Whether the shooting at the nearby house was deliberate or unintentional is still unknown.
Among the several allegations against the individuals are firearms violations, firing into an occupied building, and causing or threatening a disaster. Police have warned that the investigation is still ongoing and asked anyone who sees either suspect to call 911.
