by Ohio’s AshlandIn the trial of Robert Michalski Jr., who was charged with the assault of two children, including a dog attack that left a kid in Savannah gravely injured, a jury last week issued a partial guilty judgment.
After a four-day trial in the Ashland County Court of Common Pleas, the verdict was handed down on June 13. Michalski, a resident of Ashland County, was found guilty of two third-degree felonies—compliance to endanger minors and tampering with evidence.
Four other counts, including kidnapping, further charges of endangering children, and possession of criminal instruments, resulted in his acquittal. Judge David Stimpert presided over the trial, and Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Laura Stanley and Matthew Metcalf handled the prosecution.
On August 17, 2024, an incident gave rise to the case. Two children, a boy and his sister, were abused at Michalski’s home, according to the prosecution. The child reportedly suffered severe injuries after being mauled by a dog while wearing handcuffs. According to authorities, the kids had been shackled on and off for a long time using a variety of techniques.
Prior to trial, co-defendants enter a guilty plea.
Taylor Marvin-Brown and Angelina Williams, two co-defendants, already pled guilty to a number of offenses, including possessing criminal tools, obstructing justice, abduction, and endangering minors. Marvin-Brown is set for sentencing on July 14, while Williams, the mother of the children, will be sentenced on June 30.
The defendants no longer have custody of the children. Both children are still in protective custody, and the boy has made a full physical recovery.
