New Jersey’s Atlantic City. After security film showed that he assaulted the victim, a guy who first seemed to help a police officer attending to a medical emergency was taken into custody on charges of robbery and assault, according to Atlantic City police.
Officer Christopher Campbell was notified of a male in need of medical assistance near Tennessee and Atlantic Avenues on November 23 at around 8:07 p.m. Ruben Carlo, 31, seemed to help assist the victim while Officer Campbell assessed the situation. The man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
However, when the victim fell, Carlo approached him, stomped on him, and made two attempts to search his pockets before fleeing the scene, according to an investigation conducted by Officer Campbell and the department’s Surveillance Center.
Officers William Harned and Kyle Bender later found Carlo on the 1900 block of Atlantic Avenue. Despite his first resistance to arrest, he was swiftly restrained and placed under arrest.
Carlo is being jailed at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on charges of robbery, aggravated violence, and resisting arrest. Police stressed that all defendants are deemed innocent unless proven guilty in court and that charges are merely accusations.
Anyone with information on the event is urged to text ACPD to tip411 (847411) for an anonymous tip or call the Criminal Investigations Unit of the Atlantic City Police Department at 609-347-5766.
Authorities attribute the case’s resolution to prompt investigative efforts and citizen tips.
