Atlantic City man pleads guilty to attempted murder in February stabbing

New Jersey’s Mays Landing. Officials in Atlantic County said Tuesday that a 35-year-old man from Atlantic City has entered a guilty plea to first-degree attempted murder in relation to a stabbing that occurred at a local market in February.

Francisco Bonilla faces a proposed 15-year term in New Jersey State Prison under the No Early Release Act after entering a guilty plea before Judge Joseph Levin, J.S.C. According to the law, Bonilla must complete 85% of his term, or around 12 years and 9 months, before he may be released on parole.

The accusations are related to an incident that happened on February 3, 2024, at Cedar Market, which is situated in Atlantic City at 101 N. Rhode Island Avenue. When police arrived to the market after receiving a stabbing report, they found that 39-year-old Emad Wissa had been stabbed several times. The attack was caught on store surveillance tape, which identified Bonilla as the attacker.

The state is being represented in the case by Assistant Prosecutor Marlaina Mutchko.

Judge Levin of Atlantic County Superior Court will sentence Bonilla on April 4, 2025.
