Baltimore man wins $50K and heads straight to the mall

BALTIMORE, MD

— A Baltimore City resident is $50,000 richer after winning the top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 drawing held May 31.

The winner, a program counselor, purchased the ticket at Jolly’s Food Mart on North Monroe Street while on the way home from picking up his wife from work. Along with a few other favorite games, he added several Bonus Match 5 tickets to his purchase.

It wasn’t until the following day that he scanned his tickets at a local gas station and saw a message instructing him to take one to the Lottery. After asking the cashier for clarification, he learned he had hit the game’s top prize.

Still in disbelief, the Baltimore man went about his day but splurged on a full car detailing service. “I just wanted my car right and I got the works,” he told Lottery officials.

He later returned home to safely store the winning ticket and shared the news with his wife.

Winner plans wardrobe upgrade and possible new car

The lucky player claimed his prize on Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters and said he plans to use some of the money for a shopping spree to refresh his wardrobe. He’s also considering buying a new car for his wife and saving the rest of the winnings.

Jolly’s Food Mart, the store that sold the winning ticket, will receive a $500 bonus for the sale.
