Baltimore police charge man in deadly December shooting

BALTIMORE In relation to a gunshot death that occurred earlier this month in the Southwest District of the city, a 42-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

Baltimore resident Tracy Jeter is charged with the December 14 murder of 29-year-old Travon Benson in the 200 block of North Payson Street. After police were called to the scene by a ShotSpotter alert, the event happened at around 8:11 p.m.

On the scene, medics declared Benson dead after officers discovered him with gunshot wounds. Soon after the discovery, the investigation was taken up by homicide detectives.

After being taken into custody, Jeter was charged with first-degree murder and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he is currently being held without bond.
