Beatdown on Lansing Street ends in teen, two adults charged

UTICA, N.Y.On Wednesday, Utica Police responded quickly and made several arrests after a man was robbed and attacked by a gang he had just met up with in the vicinity of Lansing Street and Nichols Street.

The victim informed police that he had set up a meeting with an acquaintance and many of the acquaintance’s acquaintances on June 25. The group abruptly flung the victim to the ground and started hitting and kicking him while they were strolling together.

The group tried to seize the victim’s cellphone during the assault and took his book bag. The attack persisted while the victim fought. After a while, he was able to get away and telephone for assistance.

Arrests Following Prompt Reaction

After receiving suspect descriptions, officers quickly identified a group in the area that fit the details. After being positively identified, the three primary suspects were taken into custody and sent to the Utica Police Department for further investigation.

Second-degree robbery charges were brought against the following people:

  • A 14-year-old juvenile male
  • John Wesby, 18, of Utica
  • Osman Borrow, 20, of Utica

No more information regarding injuries or whether any objects were found has been made public by the police.
