Bel Air, Md. When a Harford County retiree won a $50,000 reward on December 2, his yearly ritual of playing Maryland Lottery scratch-off tickets at the end of the year paid off handsomely.
The man bought his winning 20X The Cash ticket at the Exxon gas station on MacPhail Road. He enjoys the pastime as part of his year-end ritual. In one round, he usually purchases ten $5 scratch-off tickets, reinvesting smaller winnings into more purchases. Before this, his largest victory was $800.
The winner of the $50,000 ticket remarked, “I kept looking at it, and looking at it, looking at it.” He asked the store clerk to confirm the prize because he wasn’t sure what to do. “Put it away!” she said, he remembered. Only his adult son was informed of the news, so he took the ticket home and locked it away.
The retiree has no plans to stop playing the lottery, but he does intend to deposit the earnings into his bank account for any unforeseen future costs. Even if the prizes are less and under $100, he is already prepared to cash in another set of tickets.
With one grand prize left unclaimed, the $50,000 prize was the second-to-last top-tier win on the 20X The Cash ticket.
