Breakthrough in D.C. shooting as suspect apprehended




Washington, D.C. Officials said Thursday that a suspect has been taken into custody in relation to a shooting that occurred in Southeast D.C. earlier this month.

The event happened in the Unit block of 53rd Street, Southeast, on Thursday, November 7, at around 10:47 a.m. A victim who claimed to have been shot by an unidentified suspect who ran away was discovered by the police. With non-life-threatening injuries, DC Fire and EMS took the sufferer to a nearby hospital.

The suspect, DeAngelo Jones, 21, of Southeast D.C., was found by Sixth District officers on Thursday, November 21, in the 400 block of Valley Avenue, Southeast. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) and taken into custody in accordance with an arrest warrant issued by the DC Superior Court.

Two weeks after the incident, police said they were able to identify and capture the perpetrator thanks to their investigation. There were no immediate information available about the situation.
