Bronx man arrested after fatal February crash that killed elderly pedestrian

New York’s Bronx. According to authorities, a 61-year-old Bronx man has been taken into custody in relation to a February collision at a busy Bronx crossroads that claimed the life of a 75-year-old pedestrian.

Rafael Delgado, of Taylor Avenue, was arrested and charged with Wahid Miah’s death, reckless endangerment, and failure to yield and exercise due care.

At at 1:23 p.m. on Monday, February 3, the event took place at the intersection of White Plains Road and Wood Avenue. Delgado was driving a 2023 BMW X5 west on Wood Avenue when he turned left onto southbound White Plains Road, hitting Miah as he crossed the roadway, according to the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.

After being taken by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, Miah was declared deceased.

Driver remained on scene following crash

Delgado stayed at the scene after the crash, according to the police. After the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad looked into the situation, charges were eventually filed.

The investigation’s conclusions and potential contributing circumstances to the crash were not disclosed by the authorities.

The inquiry is still ongoing.
