Bronx man charged with murder in fatal shooting of 17-year-old


BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old on Saturday evening, police said.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at 601 Oak Terrace, located within the 40th Precinct. Upon arrival, police found Xavier Navarez, a 17-year-old resident of Brook Avenue, with multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

Emergency Medical Services transported Navarez to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.


Following an investigation, authorities arrested 33-year-old James Walker, who lives at the Oak Terrace address where the shooting occurred. Walker has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The NYPD is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No additional details about a possible motive or the events leading up to the incident have been released.
