Bronx man indicted for bringing assault rifle into subway station, assaulting police

New York’s Bronx. The Bronx District Attorney said Wednesday that a man who was discovered inside a subway station with a disassembled assault-style weapon and ammo has been indicted on several offenses.

According to the indictment, on November 5, Abraham Sosa, 20, reportedly entered a restricted tunnel at the Kingsbridge Road subway station and resisted arrest as NYPD Transit Officers approached him. According to the officers, a semiautomatic rifle was discovered in two halves inside his rucksack, along with 25 rounds of ammunition—one of which was chambered in the gun—and a defaced serial number.

Three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and numerous other offenses, such as assault and trespass, are included in the indictment. The dangers that weapons in transportation systems bring to public safety were highlighted by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark. In a statement, Clark said that “we will not tolerate firearms in public places, especially high-powered weapons that can cause mass injuries.”

Authorities claim that Sosa tried to escape the scene and resisted arrest, knocking three cops to the ground in the process. He was arrested in the subway tube as a result of the incident, which started around 4:30 p.m. He is due back in court on March 26, 2025, after being arrested on December 6 with bail of $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond.

The ammo that was discovered in Sosa’s possession was frequently used for hunting, according to the prosecution. The circumstances surrounding the firearm’s origin and the defaced serial number are still being investigated by investigators.
