New York’s Bronx. District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said Friday that a Bronx man has been charged with second-degree murder and other offenses for allegedly shooting and killing a 17-year-old kid in the Mott Haven area last month.
On November 9, 2024, James Walker, 34, of Oak Terrace, is charged with shooting ten rounds at Xavier Navarez, causing the youngster to be hit three times in the leg and body. After being taken to New York Health + Hospitals Lincoln, Navarez passed away from his wounds.
District Attorney Clark described the incident outside Walker’s home at 609 Oak Terrace, saying, “This act was reckless and senseless.” The shooting’s reason has not been revealed, but Walker and the victim were reportedly friends.
Shortly after the incident, Walker turned himself in to NYPD detectives at his residence. In a bag behind the building, a 9mm handgun thought to have been used in the event was found.
Walker is charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, first-degree manslaughter, and second-degree murder. He is being jailed without bail after being arraigned before Justice Brenda Rivera of the Bronx Supreme Court. He is expected to appear in court again on March 26, 2025.
