Bronx man indicted for fatal stabbing outside shelter in alleged act of vengeance

New York’s Bronx. After fatally stabbing another man outside a Red Cross shelter on Christmas Eve in what prosecutors called an act of street justice, a Bronx man has been charged with second-degree murder and related counts.

On January 14, 2025, Justice Cynthia Isales arraigned Kayjon Yizar, 28, of East Tremont Avenue, in the Bronx Supreme Court. He was accused of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree manslaughter, and second-degree murder. Yizar, who is charged with the murder of Arkmayer Davis, age 36, has been placed under detention and is scheduled to return to court on April 15, 2025.

Yizar allegedly approached Davis and stabbed him several times in the head and torso on December 24, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m., in front of a Red Cross shelter at 101 East Tremont Avenue, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. After Yizar’s apartment sustained major damage in a fire at 1331 Findlay Avenue on December 2, 2024, the shelter was designated as temporary accommodation for the displaced occupants.

The stabbing was caught on camera, and Davis was able to flee into the shelter before passing out. After being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, he passed away there. The arrest of Yizar occurred on December 25, 2024.

Although Davis had not been charged with any charges connected to the incident, prosecutors claim that Yizar held Davis responsible for causing the fire that destroyed his residence.

According to Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, the defendant committed this senseless act of brutality in broad daylight while in a fit of rage. In the Bronx, such retaliation is not and will not be accepted.
