New York’s Bronx. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said Wednesday that a man from the Bronx has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for ruthlessly beating and starving two teenage siblings who were under his custody.
Justice Audrey Stone of the Bronx Supreme Court sentenced 35-year-old Michael Ramos to six years in prison and three years of post-release supervision for each of the two counts of second-degree assault he entered a guilty plea to in November.
Ramos horribly abused the victims, a 14-year-old girl and her 13-year-old brother, in his unit in the Eastchester Gardens Housing Complex between January 1 and April 17, 2023. According to investigators, Ramos threatened to kill the kids while holding a loaded gun to their heads, beating them with other weapons, and repeatedly pistol-whipping them. In addition, he denied them food and kept them from going to school.
Ramos’s mother, who died in 2019, adopted the siblings when they were still newborns, and he became their legal guardian. DA Clark denounced Ramos’ behavior, describing his treatment of the kids as cruel and pointing out that they are still coping with the psychological and physical effects of the abuse.
According to Clark, the defendant, who served as their guardian, severely abused the siblings and denied them nourishment. Now, he is being held responsible for the terrible way he treated these kids.
Although the victims of a Bronx man’s abuse of his teenage wards receive a 12-year prison sentence, the pain they face remains.
