Brooklyn Hit-and-run Man Killed by Dump Truck While Kneeling in Street

On Monday, police were attempting to identify a guy in his twenties who was struck and killed by a dump truck driver in Brooklyn early Saturday while squatting in the street to pick up food.

According to NYPD sources, the man was crossing Withers Street near Woodpoint Road in Williamsburg shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday when he knelt to pick up what officers subsequently confirmed to be food.

According to police, the driver of a Mack dump truck was going north when he veered right and struck the man. First responders transported him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police said the motorist, a 49-year-old guy, fled the scene. They have not announced any arrests, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating the incident.

The tragedy occurred following two earlier tragic collisions in Brooklyn. On Thursday afternoon, authorities reported 26-year-old East New York resident Imani Vance was killed in a car-school bus collision. Trisha Chiriboga, 45, of Boerum Hill, was murdered Friday night after a vehicle struck her as she unlocked her car’s rear door, according to officials.

According to the NYPD, the driver who reportedly hit Chiriboga remained at the scene and was not detained.

Tyree Epps, 32, of Brooklyn, was arrested in connection with Vance’s death in the crash. He was allegedly driving the automobile in which she was a passenger, and he has been charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a license, and other violations.

According to court records, Epps was also detained for driving without a license in Brooklyn in August. Neither his lawyer in that case nor his lawyer in the current case, responded to calls for comment Monday. According to the New York Daily News, Vance and Epps may have only recently met and were driving her to a friend’s residence.
