Nashville, TennesseeThree males were taken into custody on Sunday afternoon after they allegedly scaled the AT&T Building in Nashville, Tennessee’s highest tower. Following a dramatic search that resulted in the suspects hiding in a bathroom stall on the 24th floor, their climb attracted the notice of a concerned resident.
The Suspicious Climb
An attentive individual reported three males acting suspiciously at the top of the AT&T Building to 911 at around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday. Using binoculars, responding officers swiftly observed the guys, identifying one lying on the AT&T logo and another close to the building’s spire. At first, officers searched the building’s outside and rooftop but were unable to locate the culprits.
When the males were nowhere to be found, the police searched the building from floor to floor. The suspects were found in a men’s restroom on the 24th floor just before 6:30 p.m.
The Search and Arrest
Officers discovered the suspects hiding in a stall in the restroom. They were told to reveal their hands beneath the stall door by a single officer brandishing a handgun. The males are seen complying in the police-released photographs, sitting together in the small stall with their hands visible under the door.
The suspects were found in possession of multiple cameras, including a GoPro, which the police believe was used to record the ascent. In one suspect’s rucksack, authorities allegedly recovered a screwdriver and crowbar, among other items purportedly used in the ascent.
The Suspects and Charges
The guys were identified as Ryan James McGarrity, 20, from Laguna Woods, California; Chase Cooper Lester, 26, from Culloden, Georgia; and Jacob Thomas Cieszynski, 26 from Chicago, Illinois. They were accused of unruly conduct and aggravated trespassing. The crowbar and screwdriver were discovered in Lester’s hands, and he is also charged with possessing burglary tools.
One of the suspects reportedly told authorities that they had heard that the AT&T Building provided the best views of Nashville. With this knowledge, the gang made the decision to ascend the building’s roof stairs in order to have a bird’s-eye view of the city.
