California Affordable Housing Development Highland Village to Feature 100 Income-Restricted Apartments

At the LA Metro Planning and Programming Committee meeting earlier this month, new renderings of Highland Village, a planned affordable housing development, were shown. The project is situated in Duarte, directly north of the Duarte/City of Hope Station on the A Line. Metro staff recommends collaborating with Jamboree Housing Corp., which anticipates a five- and six-story building with 100 income-restricted apartments, ground-floor commercial space, and parking, according to an Urbanize LA report. The U-shaped building, created by Architecture Design Collaborative, will have a community area and a central courtyard.

According to the organization’s website, Jamboree Housing is a nonprofit affordable housing developer located in Irvine, California, committed to creating workforce communities around the state. The initiatives undertaken by the group span the Inland Empire, including Riverside and San Bernardino counties in California, Orange and San Diego counties, Los Angeles County, the greater Sacramento area, and other areas.

The group is working on several projects throughout the County of Los Angeles

According to a company announcement, work on Jamboree Housing Corp.’s Larkin Place, a 33-unit supportive housing complex for people suffering homelessness, got underway earlier this year. The Claremont City Planning Department first gave the project approval in 2022. The four-story Larkin Place building will have 24 one-bedroom apartments, a two-bedroom manager’s unit, and 8 studios when it is finished in 2025. Larkin Place offers its inhabitants a variety of on-site services, such as case management, peer support, individual and group therapy, recovery support, and assistance in developing life skills, in addition to amenities like a communal room and grill area.

Jamboree’s second affordable housing development in Claremont is called Larkin Place. The first, Courier Place, introduced 74 affordable apartments for seniors and families making between thirty and fifty percent of the area median income when it was constructed in 2011.
