On December 7, 2024, at around 6 p.m., a Palm Springs Police Department traffic officer lost control of his motorbike while riding along the parade route. At the intersection of Palm Canyon Drive and Amado Road, the officer, identified as Kenney Merenda, collided with a group of parade participants.
Merenda was reported to have sustained a terrible injury, including a partial amputation of his hand. He is anticipated to regain hand mobility, according to authorities. Eleven others, including the officer, were hurt and treated to local hospitals. The others were treated and released, but two are still in the hospital.
