$1 billion A California-based technology company has expanded to Texas, resulting in the creation of 1,000 new positions.
Another billion-dollar technology company is defying the trend and relocating to Texas, despite the fact that a significant number of California-based companies are departing the state. This time, BillionToOne, a molecular diagnostics company, intends to establish a presence in the Capital City.
According to a company news release, BillionToOne intends to create over 1,000 employment in Austin by the time the 220,000-square-foot building is finished in 2026. The company aspires to further the life sciences sector in Austin by providing employment opportunities for post-doctoral researchers, automation engineers, clinical laboratory scientists, and laboratory technicians.
According to the release, the Quantitative Counting Templates platform, a ground-breaking technology that is “revolutionizing” molecular diagnostics by improving the accuracy of diagnostic tests in the prenatal and oncology fields, will be the focus of the researchers’ ongoing work in the new Austin space. BillionToOne was contacted by MySA for a response.
“Austin’s vibrant culture and high concentration of exceptional STEM graduates from its nearby universities make it the ideal location for our expansion,” BillionToOne CEO Oguzhan Atay said in the release. “We’re excited to continue our mission of transforming molecular diagnostics—making them more powerful, accurate, efficient, and accessible—from our state-of-the-art Austin laboratory, which will have a capacity of processing up to 6 million high-complexity molecular diagnostics tests every year.”
The Austin expansion will be overseen by Tarlton Properties, a tier-one life sciences developer that currently administers BillionToOne’s property at Menlo Park Labs in California, according to the release. BillionToOne is situated in EastVillage, a 425-acre planned development located off of East Parmer Lane in Northeast Austin. Multi-family units and retail spaces are already present in the development, which has a master plan of 2,400 units, three hotels, a 150-acre park, 466 single-family houses, and the BillionToOne campus upon completion of construction.
