California Flood Watch: Heavy Rain Threatens Sonoma, Napa, and Marin Counties Through Wednesday

California’s San Francisco As a strong storm system approaches, North Bay counties in California are under a Flood Watch. Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties are at high risk of flooding due to the heavy rainfall that is predicted from early Wednesday morning through Thursday.

In certain places, the storm is expected to bring rain totals of half an inch to three-quarters of an inch per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Urban areas, rivers, and creeks are vulnerable to floods, and low-lying roadways, such as portions of Highway 101, may see water pooling. It is recommended that residents stay away from flooded areas when driving and keep an eye out for updates from local authorities regarding road closures.

The storm is a component in a pattern of rainy weather that is predicted to last until Friday. Ahead of the system, clouds will increase on Tuesday evening, and rain is expected to start on Wednesday about 4 a.m. Winds will pick up speed, maybe hitting 36 mph. Through the middle of the week, highs will stay in the low 60s, while lows at night will drop into the 50s.

With gusty winds and more rain expected throughout the day, the weather is expected to continue into Thursday. Conditions will gradually improve on Friday, although there will likely be sporadic showers over the weekend.
