California raw milk recalled after positive test for bird flu virus

Following the discovery of bird flu virus in a retail sample of raw milk from a Fresno dairy, state health officials issued a warning to consumers on Sunday.

According to a news release from the California Department of Public Health, officials from the County of Santa Clara Public Health Laboratory found avian flu in one sample of raw milk that was bought from a retail establishment. The state health department stated that as a second line of consumer protection, the Santa Clara County office has been testing raw milk from retail establishments.

The findings were examined and confirmed by the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System.

According to the government, no illnesses have been reported as a result of this batch of raw milk.

According to a statement from Raw Farm, the Fresno-based dairy that produced the raw milk, a single lot of fluid milk in the quart and half-gallon sizes was voluntarily recalled.

According to Raw Farm’s owner, Mark McAfee, all of the lots examined by the firm and the California Department of Food and Agriculture had negative avian flu viral testing.

The recalled lot was manufactured on November 9 and will expire on November 27.

Raw Farm advised retailers to take items from the affected lot off their shelves and advised customers to return items in-store for a refund or replacement.

Due to the continuous spread of bird flu in dairy cows and poultry, as well as a few human infections, the state Department of Public Health stated it is cautioning customers against consuming any potentially tainted raw milk from the impacted lot.

According to McAfee, this is a highly controversial moment for raw milk.

RFK Jr. stated, “I just know that there is a grandly elevated political environment with people in America now wanting more raw milk.” Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist, has been named by President-elect Donald Trump to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
