Just in time for holiday travel chaos, a carry-on bag from a passenger at LAX creates a security nightmare with knives, fake firearms, pyrotechnics, and more!#LosAngeles, California, #News, #Crime
Los Angeles, CaliforniaThe TSA doesn’t see a carry-on bag stuffed full of knives, fake firearms, and pyrotechnics very often. On December 15, however, Californians at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) found out just that when they tagged a woman’s bags. Even seasoned TSA officials were taken aback by the unexpected haul, particularly during the hectic holiday season.
The Troubling Discovery at LAX
X-ray screeners saw some odd objects in the woman’s carry-on bag while she was traveling from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. 82 fireworks, three folding knives, two fake weapons, and a pepper spray canister were discovered by TSA officers during the check. Given the hectic holiday travel season, this concerning hoard caused serious concerns.
The TSA made it apparent that the discovery was concerning, but they did not say if the woman was arrested or permitted to continue her trip. Even at LAX, one of the nation’s busiest airports, the sheer number of banned items in a single suitcase was unusual.

TSA Reminders for Holiday Travelers
The TSA advised passengers to exercise extra caution when packing for flights in light of this discovery.
Because fireworks are volatile, the agency stressed that they are never permitted in checked or carry-on luggage. Always put knives and model guns in checked luggage rather than carry-on. Pepper spray is permitted in checked luggage under some circumstances, however passengers should confirm the specific airline’s policies before bringing it on board.
The TSA also reminded Christmas travelers not to bring wrapped presents. TSA officials might have to open a present for inspection if it sets off an alarm during screening, which might ruin the surprise.
