Carjacked Honda crashes into truck hours after armed robbery in Baltimore

Baltimore, Maryland. After an armed carjacking in South Baltimore early Thursday ended with a tractor-trailer collision barely hours later, a man is being held and charged.

The incident started in the 200 block of Washburn Avenue at approximately 5:14 a.m. on June 19. Police said an armed Black male suspect approached a 49-year-old guy and forced him from his car at gunpoint. The victim’s Honda Civic was used by the suspect to escape the scene.

Officers responded to a reported crash near the junction of South Hanover and West Cromwell Street that had injuries less than six hours later, at around 10:58 a.m. When they arrived, they found that a tractor-trailer had been struck by the identical Honda Civic that had been involved in the previous carjacking.

The Honda’s unidentified male driver was taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. A pistol was found inside the car by the officers.

After leaving the hospital, the suspect will be charged.

Following his discharge from the hospital, the driver will be brought to the Central Booking Intake Facility to be charged with carjacking, according to the Baltimore Police Department.

The nature of the suspect’s injuries and whether any other people were involved in the event have not been further explained.

The suspect’s name has not yet been made public by investigators pending formal booking.
