Central Missouri Weather Alert: Storms Expected Today with Tornado Risks from 4-9 PM

Kansas City, MO – Severe weather is forecast to hit central and southeast Missouri this afternoon, with storms expected to roll in between 4 and 9 p.m., potentially impacting major highways and rural communities alike. Residents should brace for strong winds and possible tornadoes, especially in areas outside the Kansas City Metro, stretching to Warrensburg and further south.

According to the National Weather Service, non-severe showers are likely to begin earlier in the day, transitioning to stronger storms in the late afternoon. This system may bring gusts up to 29 mph and could produce up to a half-inch of rain, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions on routes like I-70 and surrounding roadways.

Travelers and residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments, avoid non-essential travel during peak storm times, and secure outdoor items that could be displaced by strong winds. Tonight, conditions are expected to calm, with showers tapering off and temperatures dropping to a low of 52°F.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will begin cloudy but should clear by afternoon, providing some reprieve with partly sunny skies and a high near 59°F. The remainder of the week remains mostly dry with a few showers possible late Thursday night into Friday.
