In Springfield, Illinois, a winter weather advisory is still in force for central and east-central Illinois. Through Saturday AM, a combination of snow and ice could make travel dangerous.
The Lincoln National Weather Service said that the alert will remain in effect until Saturday at 10 a.m. CST. Springfield, Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur, and the neighboring counties are among the impacted locations. It is anticipated that there will be further accumulations of snow up to one inch and ice up to a tenth of an inch.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses could become slippery and dangerous, officials warn. Drivers should slow down, be cautious, and give themselves more time to get there. Overnight into early Saturday is when the worst circumstances are expected to occur.
McLean, Logan, De Witt, Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Shelby, Cumberland, and Clark are among the counties that are included in the recommendation. Additionally impacted are the counties of Mason, Menard, Tazewell, Cass, Fulton, Morgan, Schuyler, and Scott in western Illinois.
