This aerial photo from the Los Angeles three-car crash, which resulted in a tense manhunt during which police shot Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, shows officers apprehending a suspect in his boxers after he undressed to avoid the police.
The commotion started Tuesday at approximately 3 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol arrived on the scene of a hit-and-run involving multiple vehicles traveling east on Ventura Freeway.
Following reports that three male suspects had left the incident on foot, the CHP and Los Angeles Police Department began a huge manhunt.
The site claimed that while escaping the hit-and-run scene, the suspect had stripped down to his boxers and attempted to blend in by diving into a home’s pool and watering plants in the Eagle Rock section of downtown Los Angeles.
Guy Binn and Alana Altmeyer, a brother and sister who were witnesses to the collision, began pursuing the suspects after spotting their attempts to leave the scene.
“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” Altmeyer stated. “So, my brother and I went over and assumed that he was leaving the scene of an accident.”
The suspects fled when they learned that the siblings were attempting to prevent them from leaving the location. One of the men stumbled and collapsed while attempting to cross the congested California freeway during the escape.
According to Altmeyer, the man seemed hurt and was “bleeding from his head, his mouth, and his knees,” but he got up and kept running across the freeway, until running down an embankment on the other side.
Binn was still pursuing the suspect, though.
“I chased him down the side of the freeway, across the freeway, over a couple of fences,” Binn stated.
“He had a bag and a sweater. I got his bag. I got his sweater and me being so old, I couldn’t keep up with the guy. I chased him to the park, and I lost him.”
About an hour and a half after the hit-and-run, CHP officers apprehended the offender, who had stripped down to his underwear. The other two suspects are still at large.
However, the mayhem didn’t stop there.
81-Year-Old Woman Stuck in Puerto Rico After Airline Denies Boarding to Her Emotional Support Parrot
Officers searched Eagle Vista Drive after a heavy police presence in the area to find the other suspects. They discovered a woman, now revealed as Jillian, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, carrying a weapon outside her home.
Jillian, 51, was told to drop the gun “numerous times” by officers, but she refused. The officers allegedly opened fire after she brandished the weapon at them, striking her in the shoulder.
After being shot, Jillian withdrew inside her home, but she later came out with another woman who was recognized as the family’s babysitter and turned herself in.
Both women were instructed to face down on the street’s pavement and come down the driveway of the house with their hands up. Both women were witnessed being cuffed by tactically equipped police officers.
A young youngster emerged from the house with his hands raised once the two were in arrest.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department took the self-described rock-wife to a nearby hospital, where she received treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Additionally, police revealed that they found a 9-millimeter handgun in her house.
Since then, Jillian has been charged with attempted murder. The babysitter and Jillian have both been freed from police custody.
Regarding the hit-and-run, a woman was taken to the hospital after sustaining moderate injuries in the collision. In both cases, no cops were injured.
