Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The Camden Fire Department and Cherry Hill Fire Department members have increased skills for high-risk, infrequent incidents after completing a specialized Tower Rescue Technician curriculum.
In order to educate first responders for intricate rescues involving towering structures, like communication towers and other elevated platforms, Elevated Safety organized a 40-hour training program. The curriculum featured practical exercises at the historic Battleship New Jersey and the Camden County Communications Center Radio Tower.
In addition to practicing complex rigging and access techniques necessary for situations requiring perilous heights, participants also rehearsed tower-based and ground-controlled rescues. Technical rescues throughout the county are handled by the Camden County Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, which is composed of the Cherry Hill and Camden departments as well as the Winslow Fire Department.
“Programs like this are crucial to ensuring readiness for these difficult situations,” the Cherry Hill Fire Department said in a statement, thanking Camden County OEM and Elevated Safety for their cooperation. Tower rescues need highly specialized training and equipment.
The training demonstrates Camden County first responders’ larger dedication to properly handling challenging rescue situations and maintaining public safety.
