Chicago, IL — An Air Quality Alert has been extended through Saturday night, as unhealthy levels of smoke continue to linger across the city and surrounding areas.
Unhealthy Conditions Across the Region
According to the Chicago Office of Emergency Management, smoke in the atmosphere has pushed air quality into unhealthy ranges, prompting officials to extend the alert. People with asthma, heart conditions, or other sensitivities are urged to stay indoors and avoid strenuous activity.
In addition, Cook County and parts of Northwest Indiana are seeing elevated wave activity along Lake Michigan this afternoon, adding to public safety concerns.
Mild Today, Warmer This Weekend
Despite the haze, temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 70s today, accompanied by hazy sunshine. Friday and Saturday will see a slight warm-up, with highs in the low 80s, but still remain below seasonal averages.

Forecast models show a steady warming trend next week:
