Clerk’s reminder nets woman $50K in lottery win

Columbia, Maryland A woman from Howard County almost skipped her usual Lottery purchase during a routine visit to a local store, but she ended up winning a $50,000 top prize from a Mosaic Money scratch-off ticket.

On June 17, the winner—who goes as Winston/Rock for publicity—went to Quick Stop Food Mart to purchase her typical terminal games. The store clerk reminded her about her usual scratch-off purchase just as she was ready to leave, so she bought many $5 tickets from the vending machine.

While still in the store, she started scanning and scratching the QR codes on her tickets. The final ticket showed a message telling her to get in touch with the lottery. Then, store employees verified that she had won the top prize of $50,000.

Days Later, the Prize Was Claimed

On June 24, Winston/Rock, a Howard County School System employee, claimed her award at Lottery Headquarters after keeping the winning ticket safe at home.

She intends to help family members, invest the wins, and save money for the anticipated arrival of a great-grandchild.

A $500 bonus will be given to Quick Stop Food Mart, located at 10750 Hickory Ridge Road in Columbia, where the winning ticket was bought.

In March, the $5 Mosaic Money scratch-off was introduced. Along with thousands of other wins ranging from $5 to $5,000, five of the eight $50,000 top prizes were still unclaimed as of June 26.
