Commerce City police seek suspects in fatal animal cruelty case involving dog thrown from car

Police in Commerce City are looking for the person or people who threw a dog out of a moving car at a major junction last week, causing the animal to be euthanized because it was seriously injured.

The event happened at the junction of East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street on November 23 at around 7:45 p.m. A puppy was tossed out the passenger side window of a moving car, according to witnesses. Before the police arrived, a good samaritan attempted to help the dog, but it was in excruciating pain, had a shattered spine, and was immobile.

After being taken by officers to an emergency veterinarian, the dog was euthanized after it was found that its injuries were too serious to be treated.

Later, a guy who claimed to be the dog’s owner reported the incident to Commerce City police. He claims that when he returned, the dog, named Rambo, had vanished from his backyard. Investigators are trying to figure out how the dog got inside the car and who is to blame for the subsequent abuse.

The perpetrator or perpetrators may be charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. Anyone with knowledge is being urged by the police to come forward and assist in identifying the culprits.
