Community rallies to support Barooah family after Thanksgiving tragedy

Roxbury, New Jersey The Barooah family, who are grieving the loss of their son Gavin in a terrible Thanksgiving tragedy, have received a tidal wave of support from the Roxbury neighborhood. As of Tuesday, the AGoFundMe campaign, which was started to help the family with burial costs and other memorial efforts, has earned $15,757 of its $25,000 target.

Danielle Weynberg created the campaign with the goal of giving the family financial support during this trying time. Longtime residents of Roxbury, the Barooah family is well-known for having raised three sons and being actively involved in the neighborhood. Donations will go toward paying for Gavin’s burial expenses, a memorial bench in his honor, and a future hockey scholarship at Roxbury High School.

On the campaign page, Weynberg stated, “Let’s band together to lessen their burden.” Since the family has always been a valued member of Roxbury, it is now our opportunity to express our gratitude to them.

The generosity of friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers is evident in the over 300 individuals who have donated thus far, with amounts ranging from $50 to $500. Among the donors are Jonathan Coe, who provided the campaign’s initial donation, and Hackettstown Pediatrics, which donated the greatest single donation of $500.

As the community comes together to offer the Barooah family both financial help and sincere condolences during their time of loss, the fundraising keeps gaining traction.

To commemorate the death of a Roxbury family and create a legacy in their son’s name, nearly $16,000 has been raised.
