Six Flags Great Adventure to Launch Record-Breaking Coaster, Retires Iconic Kingda Ka Ride

JACKSON, N.J. — Six Flags Great Adventure announced a major investment plan that includes a record-breaking new roller coaster and other enhancements as part of a $1 billion company-wide expansion. The Jackson, New Jersey theme park will debut THE FLASH™: Vertical Velocity, North America’s first super boomerang coaster, in 2025, and an all-new multi-record-breaking launch coaster in 2026, the company revealed in a recent news release.

Brian Bacica, president of Six Flags Great Adventure, described the upgrades as part of a broader commitment to enhance the park experience with new thrill rides, family-friendly attractions, and expanded dining options. “In 2025, we’re thrilled to debut THE FLASH™: Vertical Velocity,” Bacica said. “And in 2026, we’ll unveil an all-new, multi-record-breaking launch coaster, a must-ride attraction sure to capture fans’ imaginations.”

To make room for the upcoming attractions, Six Flags is retiring several long-standing rides, including the iconic Kingda Ka coaster, which has held the title of the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster since it opened in 2005. Kingda Ka, along with the GREEN LANTERN™ coaster and several other attractions, will be removed as construction begins on the new 2026 ride. The park is also removing The Twister, Parachutes, and Sky Way to support further development.
