Doug and I love seafood. We also get excited when we discover great new restaurants. So when we heard that Mr. & Mrs. Crab just opened in Clearwater, we knew we had to try it.

Mr. & Mrs. Crab is in the Sunset Point 19 Plaza on…you guessed it, the corner of Sunset Point Road and U.S. 19. It is in on the SW corner of a separate building opposite the L-shaped buildings of Five Below and Barnes & Noble.
When we first walked in, we discovered a rustic décor with a nautical theme and a full-service bar.
Our friendly waitress seated us and gave us a pamphlet menu.
I’m one of those people who loves crab and lobster, but hates getting their hands sticky. So when I read the menu items of various seafood dishes listed under the heading “Get Your Hands Dirty,” I passed on those choices to order a relatively clean basket of fried clams and sweet potato fries. Doug chose one of the “Get Your Hands Dirty” Special Combos of lobster, shrimp and snow crab.

The waitress returned and after taking our orders, began bringing various accoutrements, such as a big plastic-lined metal bucket, paper plates and plastic utensils with thin plastic gloves, a plastic tie-on bib, packets of wipes and plenty of napkins.
We sat and admired the décor of chandeliers – created from what looked like big metal Roman-numeral clocks and bicycle rims and spokes, rope dividers, life preservers, ships’ wheels, and plastic fish and sharks hanging from the ceiling. (Doug long ago trained me to identify various species of fish, so we make a game of it whenever we spy fish decorating a restaurant’s walls.)
While the restaurant was relatively empty when we first entered, it soon began to fill up – including a large party of 14, who were celebrating some family event with a big cake they had brought along. However, social distancing was still maintained.
Our waitress delivered a large paper cup of lobster bisque and one crab cake. We first endeavored to share them, but after a taste of both wished I’d ordered one for each us – they tasted that good! We promptly devoured them both.
Next, our entrees arrived. I sat and stared at Doug’s massive bag of seafood, corn and potatoes with Mr. & Mrs. Crab’s special sauce … and turned green with envy – especially since he wasn’t getting his hands dirty at all with his thin, plastic gloves. When I sampled his juicy lobster, shrimp and snow crab, I knew I’d be ordering them on the next visit.
Not that the fried clams weren’t good. Delicioso!
But the juiciness of the shrimp and lobster will haunt my dreams. We both have literally not tasted anything as good in all our years (decades, really) of sampling the best seafood the world over.
I just discovered they have a Birthday Club on their website and signed us both up to get 10% off our next order and to also receive a $15 gift certificate for use anytime during our birthday months.
I reached out to the Tom, Operations Manager of Clearwater’s Mr. & Mrs. Crab with a few questions:
How did the grand opening go?
We feel blessed to finally be a part of the Clearwater community! Our
Grand Opening exceeded all expectations and we couldn’t be more thankful
for the amount of support we received. We look forward to serving our
community for many years to come.
What kind of safety precautions does Mr. & Mrs. Crab take?
Mr. & Mrs. Crab has implemented very strict procedures for our staff to
follow, such as proper face mask coverings, wearing gloves at all times,
temperature screening prior to every shift, constant sanitation every
hour, and much more in an effort to provide the safest dining
environment possible for our community.
What should you get from Mr. & Mrs. Crab?
My opinion? Hands down, the Combo A. Snow crab, shrimp, lobster, with
corn and potatoes at a discounted price. Can’t beat that!
Mr. & Mrs. Crab’s hours are 12 noon to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12 noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday – perfect for us night owls with limited choices late at night.
Mr. & Mrs. Crab also has many more locations, in case you’re traveling. Check out their website for all of their many restaurants throughout Florida.

Mr. & Mrs. Crab serves tasty appetizers, tantalizing lunch specials, create-your-own combos and a variety of fried baskets – something for every seafood lover. I know we’ll be back very soon.
