D.C. police capture man wanted in fatal Alabama Avenue shooting


WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old William Spriggs, who was killed in Southeast D.C. earlier this year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The shooting occurred on May 22 at around 10:45 p.m. in the 4800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Spriggs with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by D.C. Fire and EMS personnel.

After months of investigation, police arrested 42-year-old Darvin Banks of Southeast D.C. on November 5 under a D.C. Superior Court warrant. Banks has been charged with First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated) in connection with Spriggs’ death.


Detectives have not released further details on the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
