Few people are dedicated to a company in quite the way that Danny Lehan is.
Lehan started with Village Inn at the age of 16 as a busboy in Largo in 1990. “It’s been my first and only job,” he laughingly said. “I love the brand – particularly the community connection and the products – which of course include delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and their famous pies. I fell in love with the people who worked there and how they treated me. I’m still there loving it very, very much.”
In case you’re wondering, Lehan’s favorite pie is the French Silk.
Lehan bought his first house at 18 years old. He’s been the general manager at several Village Inns, including those in North Dale Mabry and Westchase. He finally decided he wanted to own his own franchise. He learned that the Village Inn on Walsingham in Largo was going out of business. “I called one of the landlords every day for 10 months until finally she gave in and agree to sell it to him. She lent Lehan part of the purchase price and his father lent him the rest. He became owner of his first franchise on August 1, 2011.
He succeeded so well that he bought the Seminole location in 2015 and 4th Street in St Pete in 2017. When COVID hit, he took a chance and bought three more from the corporation in 2020 – Riverview, Brandon and Land O’Lakes. In February 2023, he added Zephyrhills. In May, a location on Tampa Road in Oldsmar opened.. The décor in this location will soon be updated.
After 33 years since his start at Village Inn, Lehan will open his ninth franchise at 2659 Roosevelt Blvd in Clearwater in January 2024, where he’s revamping the 70-year-old image with a fresh and new design. He’s also adding an espresso bar with cappuccinos and bar items that include mimosas, wines and martinis.
And of course, all locations still have those mouth-watering pies!
