WashingtonU.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith announced Friday that a 22-year-old male from Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 20 years in prison for an armed carjacking and a separate armed robbery in 2022.
In August 2024, Deangelo Richardson entered a guilty plea to one count of armed robbery and one count of armed carjacking in the District of Columbia Superior Court. The punishment, which includes five years of supervised release after his jail term, was handed down by Judge Erik Christian.
Richardson and two armed, masked accomplices committed a slew of violent offenses in Northeast D.C. on July 14, 2022, according to the prosecution. In the end, the three went after a woman who was parking in the 600 block of Morton Place NE. They took her credit cards, phone, and car after threatening her with a gun, and Richardson used them at nearby establishments.
On November 26, 2022, Richardson was armed and robbed in the 1300 block of South Carolina Avenue SE. According to the authorities, Richardson parked his car in front of a couple who were out walking their dog, then he stepped out brandishing a gun and stole the husband’s phone. Later that evening, after a police chase, he was taken into custody.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Omeed Assefi prosecuted the case after it was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Carjacking Task Force.
